"Project Prerna" is a transformative initiative launched by the Coochbehar District administration with the goal of fostering a child-friendly society. The initiative revolves around five core pillars designed to protect children's rights and promote their holistic development in an inclusive manner.
1) It focuses on establishing a robust institutional framework by reinvigorating Child Protection Committees at various levels, enabling them to identify children in need due to circumstances like disability, child labor, abuse, or early marriage. Proposals for addressing these issues are developed and reviewed by higher-level committees.
2) Capacity building is a crucial aspect, with committee members being trained to recognize child vulnerabilities, understand child rights, and familiarize themselves with available provisions to address violations.
3) IT platform is developed to facilitate the creation of a comprehensive database of vulnerable children at the grassroots level, ensuring better monitoring and more effective action.
4) The fourth pillar emphasizes multi-sectoral convergence, encouraging collaboration across different sectors to address various vulnerabilities faced by children comprehensively.
5) Lastly, community participation and ownership are promoted, fostering a bottom-up approach with active involvement from the community, ultimately aiming to create child-friendly environments at various levels.
The initiative's unique features include a holistic development approach, a focus on prevention, IT integration, and alignment with international conventions and sustainable development goals.
